What is laser hair removal?

1. No sun exposure is the first step to protect your skin. It is necessary to avoid direct sun or sun-bathing for 2 weeks post treatment.
2. Any other hair removal methods such as waxing or plucking the hairs must be avoided as it may destroy the skin and hair follicles.
3. Hot water shower may burn the skin; it is advised to take cool showers after the treatment.
4. Topical soothing cream is recommended to apply on the skin.
5. The best way to protect the skin is to exfoliate during the 4weeks after getting the treatment.
How long will the treatment last?
The treatment lasts depending upon the size of the area treated like for upper lips it may take few minutes whereas for back or legs treatment can last 30mins in one sitting however several sessions are required depending on the type of hair and skin colour. Most patients require between 6to 12sessions to get the complete process depending on the area.
The number of sessions include various parameters such as gender, which part of body being treated, skin colour, and coarseness of the hair. Coarse dark hair is easier to treat on light skin whereas men’s face requires more treatment to achieve the results.
There is the risk of burning, blistering, discoloration, redness, or scarring on the skin, it is very important to have this procedure done with qualified therapist.
There are chances of increase or decrease in the pigmentation in the areas of treatment hence it is necessary to apply sunscreen with SPF30 before and after the procedure regularly.
Pre and post home care
Before starting off with the laser hair removal treatment one must limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for 4 weeks before starting the treatment.
Avoid sun exposure 6 weeks prior to the treatment as it makes laser hair removal treatment less effective.
No use of makeup/lotion/deodorant on the day of appointment.
After the treatment redness and bumps lasting for 2 hours are quite common for some skin type.
